The Forgotten Books…
A library’s collection can include books, periodicals, manuscripts etc. libraries range sizes from a few shelves and books to a several million of them.
We enshrine the international day of book at 23rd April. We are shinning a light on the books which were lying in the corners, waiting patiently to share their stories with us. As CATALONIA recites ”A ROSE FOR LOVE BUT A BOOK FOREVER”.
There are a lot of books getting published day by day, over the time some of them get blotted out of our minds like THE GREAT GAME, UP THE OLD HOTEL , WINTER WHEAT, HOME COOKING, NEVERENDING STORY, to name some. Here I have mentioned three great hits which have been forgotten.
SHADOW OF THE WIND
IT was a 2001 novel by CARLOS RUIZ ZAF’ON a Spanish worldwide bestseller. It was translated in 2004 by LUCIA GRAVES. It sold over millions of copies in UK, and now it is also one of the forgotten books.
This book belongs to a series called CEMENTRY OF FORGOTTON BOOKS.
Its genre is still a mystery. It is said to have more than 500 pages.
UP THE OLD HOTEL
The first forgotten book in LORI’S list is JOSEPH MICHELL’S UP THE OLD HOTEL. Which explores the vanished books of New York. Mitchell describes indelible characters and places in impeccable style from saloon keepers to street preachers to gypsies, and steel walking Mohawks even a bearded lady.
LORI also found a novel called WINTER WHEAT Which introduces a vivid heroine ELKLEN WEBB. Who lives in a dryland in the central Montana during the early 1940s. It is a powerful story about growing up, becoming a woman, mentally, emotionally and spiritually.
Sometimes, things are not completely forgotten it just takes a simple push to remember them.
